Two great parties, two great LGBT events and a movie opening....

Firstly, Jodie Foster might not have officially COME OUT... but the slow, rippling effect of her acceptance speech at the Women in Entertainment Power Breakfast on December 4th is reaching national news. Slowly the newspapers and television programs are catching on to how powerful those few little words were.

It's widely known in Hollywood that Jodie is a lesbian and has had a partner for years, so the minute the Academy Award winning actress even made a PEEP, it immediately gave reporters free reign to run with the story they've already known about for years.

For example, OUT magazine did a rather bold thing earlier this year by making Anderson Cooper and Jodie Foster cut-outs, (see above) for their "Why Won't Stars Come out of the Closet" story.

And here with their family. But don't worry, if you're a right wing Republican or Religious Zealot I'm sure they were on their way to corrupt youth and ruin the sanctity of marriage.


The Brave One my ass. This woman has been in the closet for thirty years now.


Here's my thinking- an actor is an actor not an activist. I used to really want more actors to come out just to help people accept homosexuality, but the fact of the matter is most of this country - according to Republican polls - doesn't like us so these people in the field of being "liked" really can't have much of a career and come out of the closet. The film business revolves around those two words that make studio execs salivate: "BOX OFFICE", which means like-ability.

Unlike some gay actors, Ms Foster doesn't live with a beard and as far as I can see, is pretty open around town about her situation. She has also had an impressive career, along with an impressive paycheck - two things that would have been compromised by her coming out. Hey, she's got kids and mortgage to pay, so why should she sacrifice her livelihood for our cause, right?

Personally, I'd rather live in a hovel and be who I am and try to knock down doors to create change, but that's me.

Meanwhile, this was a big move for her. I'm really hoping this means she'll start using her celebrity to help the community. It would be nice. We need more "Brave Ones" to do that.

Volunteer Information:

1. Volunteers are asked to work from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM (if possible).
2. Volunteers are asked to bring Target gift cards ($5 denominations). This is not required to be a volunteer.
3. Please bring any holiday decorations (no glass) that can be used for the event.
4. Please bring empty boxes and wrapping paper as we will use these as decorations also.
5. Please bring any ‘standee’s/cutouts’ that can be used for the photo booth (famous people, etc).
6. A few more volunteers are needed. If you can volunteer please send an email to erik.plaht@warnerbros.com.


In closing and speaking of out gay celebrities, I'm not sure where Ricky Martin is in "coming out", but if your boyfriend was this cute wouldn't you be telling everyone!?
